As Kim Kardashian has proven it again this week, it can be hard to dress for your baby bump; So I’ve decided to write a blog on the best style tips to stay chic throughout your pregnancy.
You should remind yourself that you are beautiful with your new curves. Aim in finding clothes that are comfortable, stylish and fun. It can be a little tricky to achieve that combo. Using clever accessories and key staples will help you add interest to your look while cleverly draw the attention where you want to.
When your bump starts to show why not making it a style statement? Instead of trying to cover it with too much fabric, which can add pounds, you should enhance it. Baggy things will make you look heavy, lean fitted clothes will give a leaner sleeker look. Avoid adding bulk around your middle with pleats, gathers heavy fabrics. After three to four months of pregnancy wear fitted tops such as in lycra to show off you bump. Try a top with boot leg jeans, tie a flowy scarf around your neck and finish off with sandals with a little heel.
Maternity wardrobe staples
The key to a stylish and comfortable maternity wardrobe is to invest in key layering pieces , jackets, scarf, trousers and dresses, in a good fit and flattering colours that can be mixed and matched with fashion tops and others stylish accessories. Your wardrobe staples should be : leggings, skinnies (go for skinnies if leggings don’t suit you); a Jacket that has some shape and the ribcage or along the waist; maternity trousers in neutral shades such as indigo, grey or black so you can select a lot more style of tops/ jacket to coordinate the look. An adjustable band or button on the waist band will enable you to take them in or out to fit your lovely bump. Your jeans should be kept simple and in medium to dark denim. A dress in a wrap, empire line or shift styles with enough give on the middle and in lean style. Go for a knee length and remember that as your bump will grow the dress will go a little shorter. A skirt in denim, cotton, linen or light cord with adjustable band and in a neutral shade. Once you have your staple chosen, select a variety of tops in short or long sleeves and accessories to create various looks
The heel is also a wardrobe must. Of course we will aim for comfort but a little heel will elongate your leg and body, even just one inch.
Here are some style ideas for a ‘Gorgeous Mama to- be’ looks
Look 1 –Try pairing a coloured skinnies with gladiator sandals with a small wedges heels (or cowboy boots) and a fitted patterned tee -shirt
Look 2- Wear a floral knee length dress with cropped shaped jacket , dropped earrings and coloured shoes and belt tied between the bust and beginning of the bump
Look 3 – Pair a bright blue straight skirt with long sleeves light knitted jumper, a scarf and tan pumps with some heels
I say no no to:
· Pleats and gathers in heavy fabric and around the bump. They will add pounds instead of flattering you beautiful bump
· No baggy and shapeless clothes
· Horizontal stripes, unless worn as a top and paired with in solid coloured blazer over
· High neck top will shorten your body
· Dress and skirt in calf length with shorten the legs
· Don’t go loose and big all over – if the top is loose to bottom has to be skinny, and vise versa
